Då får man behålla bucklan.

Thailand Diaries: Alpine Golf Resort After an exc Thailand Diaries: Alpine Golf Resort

After an excellent breakfast in the jungle (the northern Thai sausage sai au is something that needs to be tried) we cruise back down to the paddy fields. Along the way we to our surprise see strawberry fields.
At the bottom of the valley, Alpine Golf Resort opens up between the mountains like a magical playground.

Here we find 27 holes divided by three loops; A, B and C. A and B are laid out closer to the mountains with C being more modern, more open and slightly tougher providing a stern challenge for the tournament golfer.
Over the years the three loops have been a bit mixed up and the signature hole, a par three onto an island green, which was originally on the B course, is now played as number 6 on the C course.

We played A and C and I must say my favorite hole was the 9th on A, a beautiful par 4 finishing up infront of the resort and with water hazards running into bunkers giving it a very nice esthetic touch. The hole asks you interesting questions both on the tee box and when into the green.

Our initial plan was to go straight from the course to the airport, but the airport is located right in the middle of the city and our driver was kind enough to swing by Wat Chedi Luang, Chiang Mai’s oldest and in my eyes coolest temple, for a nice spiritual end to the visit.

Now off to Phuket for some beach time!

Thailand diaries: Wake up in the jungle - Woo ma c Thailand diaries: Wake up in the jungle - Woo ma ca Moo

The best thing about traveling? To explore new things, cultures and meet people with different backgrounds.
And by going to Woo ma ca Moo, up in the mountains north east of Chiang Mai, we got just that.
This was an experience like nothing I’ve seen before.
Small roads took us up, up and up, and through and incredible vegetation and a nature that can only remind one of Jurassic Park. At 1 300 meters above see level Woo ma ca Moo is built into a hillside by a river in the deepest jungle.

The altitude makes for a almost 10 degrees cooler climate than in the city (which can be nice when the brain gets overheated from bad golf shots) but more than anything serenity is the word that strikes me.
Here you find peace by being one with the nature, and the rooms - spacious, raw and yet warm, playful and cozy - have been designed with that in mind.
Enjoy sauna or take a dip in your private outside bathtub, unless you prefer the river…

I had the best night’s sleep I’ve had in a long time and waking up to the noise of waterfalls and birds singing set a very harmonious tone for the rest of the day.

I’ve stayed at many hotels around the world, but this is truly special, one of my new favorites - and a good reason to go far, far, far away from home.

Thailand diaries: Gassan Panorama Gassan Panorama Thailand diaries: Gassan Panorama

Gassan Panorama is the longest golf course in Thailand, measuring over 7 000 meters from the tips.
Built around lake it consists of two loops, both finishing in a dramatic style infront of a clubhouse straight out of The Arabian Nights.
With mysterious mountains in the background this is both a scenic and difficult test. Lakes and bunkers penalize any wayward shot - and I will admit that this was a day where I lost one or two balls too many.
Good thing my caddie Nat kept me in a good mood (not an easy task) which eventually helped me turn things around.

As golf became a central part of Thai tourism in the late 20th century, the government mandated caddies at all courses to create thousands of local jobs. Initially many of them were farmers whose land had been converted into golf courses. This system provided a steady income for rural communities, and still remains a profession that supports entire families.

When in Northern Thailand one should not only play golf. One also needs to eat and Chiang Mai is world famous for its food. Even though originally from Myanmar, Khao soi soup has become a local speciality. This coconut curry noodle soup has been voted ”best soup in the world” by Taste Atlas.

Thailand diaries - day 2: Gassan Legacy and Chiang Thailand diaries - day 2: Gassan Legacy and Chiang Mai

After a very good night’s sleep it was time for the first golf round of the trip.
Gassan Legacy originally opened in 2005 under the name Gassan Lake City Golf Club - a name that does make sense. The course was built on top off old paddy fields (rice plantations) the and clubhouse is literally speaking surrounded by lakes. When the course a decade after the opening was redesigned by Lee Schmidt the architect made sure to utilize the waters in the best possible way. Today we play a course that isn’t very long but that has at least one lake in play on each and every hole, which makes for a really fun challenge for all categories of golfers. The par threes especially stands out with their do or die-shots, playing onto island greens.
The front nine is good. The back is better, and everything culminates with a dramatic par 5 - par 3 - finish.

While playing here it is a good choice to stay at The Island Hotel, a traditional Thai hotel on an island next to the 18th green. Beds are comfy and the view exotic for us westerners.

When staying at Gassan Legacy one should make the effort to go into the city of Chiang Mai, a quick 30 minutes drive away. Nibble street food, visit Muay Thai fights and stroll around among palaces such as Wat Chedi Luang in Old Town. We finished off the day by visiting a night bazaar for some bizarre shopping and mango with sticky rice.

Thailand diaries – day 1: A long journey Welcome Thailand diaries – day 1: A long journey
Welcome to my Thailand diary where you get to come along for 14 days of golf and other fun excursions under the sun.
Let’s kick it off!

10 hours to Bangkok and another hour to Chiang Mai may sound like an exhausting journey. But I must say it wasn’t too bad.

Purchasing mobile data in advance is a good way to stay connected to friends and family, made things easy upon arrival in Bangkok. Immigration was much smother than one may expect.
Another tip after a long haul flight is to get a massage at the airport. Not as overpriced as in European and American airports and much better.
By the way, this is an airport that has everything one may wish for, from sleeping options to food from all over the world.

We had 8 ours in Bangkok before continuing to Chiang Mai, and perhaps could have gone into the city. However we didn’t want to risk anything and opted for some massage and work.

Of course we were exhausted when arriving in Chiang Mai. However the very exotic feeling here got the blood flowing again. Gassan Legacy Golf Club is about 15 minutes from the airport and you drive both through the city and what feels like a jungle before arriving to a very cool island hotel next to a clubhouse surrounded by lakes. # Lite tajtare huvud och smalare sula
# Aningen mindre offset
# Sulan har för övrigt en lite annan slipning med mer trail relief (som 2021-modellen)
# Färgen är lite mattare och lite mörkare
# Generellt lite rundare former
# Lite snällare vikning i järnfyran, vilket gör den mer förlåtande.
# Allt som allt snyggaste T100n så långt - en klubba som tilltalar den duktige golfaren och som erbjuder samma härliga känsla och regelbundenhet som alltid!
